Eleven Reasons to vist Vence on the Cote d’Azur

IMG_6822Blue skies and sunshine for much of the year, which makes for al fresco dining and people watching.

  • Friendly people always happy to point you in the right direction, allow you to practice your French but most speak very good English and won’t let you struggle with language difficulties. There is also a Tourism Office in the main square where you can pick up leaflets and maps and ask all the questions you need to.
  • Huge range of bars and restaurants catering from fast food to fine dining and offering a range of global cuisine as well as local specialities. We enjoyed –
  • Markets almost every day as well as an evening markets on Tuesdays including antiques, crafts and even a massage offered on the side of the road!
  • Fantastic evening vibe, busy without being crowded, locals eating amongst tourists.
  • Churches and art galleries to visit.
  • Great views from the ramparts round the historic city.
  • Pedestrian areas in the old city making exploring safe and easy, great photo opportunities both day and night time.IMG_3040
  • Great location for coastal visits, medieval hip top villages such as St Paul de Vence and Tourrettes Sur Loup, Cannes, Nice, Grasse and Monaco.
  • There is often music in some of the squares and wandering mistrals outside restaurants and cafes.
  • About half an hour by car from Nice airport, but if driving is not your thing it is easy to get a bus from the airport. The Vence bus station also offers routes into Nice town for just one and a half euros and to some of the local villages.

The Grey Traveller stayed in a self catering cottage within walking distance to the town for more information click on Our little home from home – a la maison, self catering in Vence.
